This popular and widely-used book fills an important need by assembling information from many sources and providing guidance and recommendations to assist the medical examiner in the medical certification decision process. Revised and updated throughout, the new Third edition provides guidance on the medical qualification determination of a commercial driver. By assembling information from many sources, especially the Federal Register, the authors provide a great service to practitioners by offering practical guidance in the conduct of commercial driver examinations.
Since publication of the Second Edition there have been changes in the medical certification process, including a new medical examination reporting form and updated guidelines to the medical certification of commercial drivers with cardiovascular disease which have been reviewed in the Third Edition.
The New Third Edition Includes • The cardiac chapter includes the new guidelines from the Federal Motor Carrier cardiovascular advisory panel. • An expanded chapter on the effects of medications on safe operations of commercial motor vehicles. • Description of a model examination and current medical criteria used for evaluating work fitness. • Full chapters on specific organ systems, such as pulmonary and musculoskeletal, as well as renal disease and the commercial driver. • Special attention is given to psychiatric disturbances and substance abuse.
